It’s not surprising that it has won ‘Best UK Tourism Destination’ at the British Travel Awards as it offers visitors the opportunity to explore 40 miles of coastline with Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status, UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrian’s Wall and one of Europe's largest International Dark Sky Parks.
The county welcomed almost 8 million visitors in 2021*, which continues to rise year on year, making it a prime location for strategic tourism investment.

2023 saw the opening of Ad Gefrin Whisky Distillery in Wooler, Northumberland’s first whisky distillery and Lilidorei the world’s largest play village which has opened in Alnwick, in the grounds of The Alnwick Garden and next to Alnwick Castle, the home of Harry Potter and Downton Abbey.
