Tourism

Coast, castles, history, heritage and experiences that you can't find anywhere else on the planet

Northumberland is a county steeped with history, rich in culture and heritage with rugged beauty, captivating coastline and dazzling dark skies.

British Travel Awards

It’s not surprising that it has won ‘Best UK Tourism Destination’ at the British Travel Awards as it offers visitors the opportunity to explore 40 miles of coastline with Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status, UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrian’s Wall and one of Europe's largest International Dark Sky Parks.

The county welcomed almost 8 million visitors in 2021*, which continues to rise year on year, making it a prime location for strategic tourism investment.

Recent major hotel developments from Premier Inn and Travelodge in key tourism and business hotspots Alnwick, Hexham and Berwick offer further opportunity and variety for those travelling to the county for leisure and the growing and developing business travel market.
