The advanced manufacturing cluster in Northumberland is recognised as one of the leading regions in the UK and is home to over 4,250 companies including Essity, Tharsus and Metrology Software Products. These world-class, home grown and international leading companies have contributed £7.5 billion manufacturing GVA into the UK productivity and have created £10 billion exports.
Northumberland is proud to have some of the worlds most advanced manufacturers. Ashington is home to Akzo Nobel's facility that is one of the world's most sustainable paint plants and it produces 1.5m litres of paint a week. In Hexham Egger (UK) Ltd's site manufacturers over 630,000 sqm of chipboard each year and Tharsus developed pick and place robots in their site in Blyth.

The skilled local labour force although strong is being enhanced by the ongoing work Northumberland is doing across STEM subjects. Along with the Welding and Fabrication Technical Training Centre and the STEM centre at Northumberland College, which is moving to a new state-of-the art Gen Zero building, there will be an Energy Central Learning Hub and Institution that will create thousands of opportunities for your people and adults interested in working in clean energy sector.
